Responses to Brain Fog and Marijuana Withdrawal Questionnaire

By October 7, 2021December 21st, 2021No Comments

After you quit weed, or perhaps while you’re still using, you may experience a lack of focus and mental clarity commonly referred to as brain fog. You may have difficulty concentrating or you may notice a worrying drop in productivity.

As with other withdrawal symptoms, the cognitive difficulties you encounter will be unique to you, and represent your brain recalibrating after an extended period marijuana use. Take comfort in knowing that you are not alone. Today, we’re bringing you accounts of 270 people who have recently quit using marijuana. Responses were gathered from an anonymous brain fog questionnaire posted on Weedless.org.

How much of your day is impacted by brain fog?

Are any daily activities disrupted by your brain fog?

When is your brain fog most severe?

Have you experienced any difficulty falling or staying asleep?

Vietnam | 18 to 24 Year Old Male (Using for 1-2 years)

Currently is about 1 month and 3 weeks after my weed usage cessation and I still having memory deficiency, can’t recollect information, knowledge that I was capable to just speak out instantly, since uni semester started 3 weeks earlier, I notice that I have slower processing speed, cant read as fast and have to retrace, reread the whole sentences several times just to comprehend or make out the crucial ideas behind it’s meaning. My speech also becomes kinda slurred, verbal memory is terrible, cant structure the whole speaking pattern and using the correct norms, words even terminologies that are part of my profession. Hearing lectures is just like racing against comprehension and catching up with what I was hearing. Toppled all of this with a more severe case of anxiety and depressive tendency. I cant do thing as fast as when I was using weed, English is my second language, I used to be able to make out every vocabularies of any degrees and wield it without a sweat, now I’m having difficulty in phrasing, writing, speaking, words just disappear.

After a month it was the start of semester that I noticed a significant deficiency in my both my mental capacity and cognitive abilities, right now I still having insomnia and anxiety disorder

United States of America | 55 to 64 Year Old Female (Using for 11+ years)

First of all, I’m a very light smoker. One to two hit a day at most. Note regularly three to four hits a week. Either of those scenarios will put me in a fog by the third day which will cause me to stop. First symptom is congestion. I think maybe some is trapped in my nasal passage. Then comes the fog, can’t remember words, poor concentration, comprehension. When reading my Renton is terrible. Can’t do anything mentally challenging. My vocabulary goes from college level to third grade  with a lot of mum’s and “What’s the word I’m looking for.”

  • Habit: One to two hits from a joint, pipe or bong each day
  • Brain Fog Experienced: Most of the day
  • Activities Disrupted: Work productivity
  • Timing of Symptoms: Really when I was younger and smoked none of this happened. But after I began to be exposed to Chlorpyrifos (an organophosphate pesticide) overspray. So that all started in about 2000 when a whole bunch of other allergy symptoms hit and other health effects from the exposures. My tolerance for a lot of things went down and I became sensitive. Couldn’t wrap my head around any of what was happening at the time.

Intense brain fog, forgetfulness, difficulties with short term memory, staying focused, speaking,   I’ve NEVER had social anxiety before but, for some reason I’ve been getting really anxious in social settings. I freeze up and don’t know what to say. Even around people I know.  I will feel confused and not quite able to understand things after I’ve read them or even during conversation with others, which is embarrassing and upsetting.  I have trouble articulating my thoughts accurately, as well; something I’ve never dealt with, which can be extremely frustrating. I stumble over my words or have trouble speaking.

About Weedless.org

Weedless.org is a free, web-based resource and community created by a team of healthcare professionals and researchers. We distill the facts about marijuana use and its effects into practical guidance for interested persons or for those who are thinking about or struggling to quit weed. Finding reliable, easy to understand information about marijuana should never be a struggle—that is why our core mission is to provide the most up to date information about marijuana use, abuse, addiction, and withdrawal. While we seek to empower individuals to have control over their use, we are not “anti-weed” and we support efforts to legalize adult marijuana use and study.
