I just got tired of it. And wanted to get my cardio back to where it uses to be.

  • Habit: Ive tried them all but usually it was a bowl. – I’d smoke an ounce every 6 days. I stayed high all the time. Frome wake up to bedtime.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: My withdrawals were not that bad. Its weird but my appetite actually increased significantly, more like ravenous, of course I was expecting to have issues eating, but was not let down when it didn’t happen. Lol. I did however experience sleep issues and insomnia for about a week. I still feel groggy when I wake up. And its easier to go to sleep but not as easy as it was with a bowl smoked prior to. I did not experience mood swings or irritability, which I have before when I’ve quit for a few months. I was a heavy smoker as well, over an ounce every 6 days. About 4.5-5.25 grams a day lol. I stayed high. First thing in the morning, wake and bake, and throughout the entire day.  I feel better, breathe better and really have had  cravings only  the first 3 days. Now, unfortunately, I have to deal with people straight up. Weed allowed me to do that in a tolerable fashion, now the mass ignorance and stupidity of most people isn’t as tolerated, so I choose to opt out of social interactions based on their consumerism and straight up indoctrination, their lack of common sense and ability to critically think for themselves is a huge turn off to being a social butterfly. Lol

incase I have to provide a drug test for a potential employer

  • Habit: Bowl, Edible, Blunt(s) – single. day. and I plan on starting again once I clear my background screening test for this job.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: I expierenced withdrawals such as urge to smoke a bowl, and even had vivid dreams once or twice of smoking a bowl or taking a hit. It felt really real that I woke up thinking I had smoked but realized it was only a dream. Other than that, nothing was so bad and its been a solid 3-4 months and I plan on starting again. Not Sure why people are so prone and addicted.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: The symptoms appeared the next day. I would think about going to smoke when I was bored or just in spare time but I believe self control is the most important thing in taking a break or “quitting”
  • Withdrawal Tips: Not really, for the first few weeks I would smoke Hookah seldom, just to give my body the illusion of smoking and I enjoy hookah. As I said, smoking hookah maybe 2-3 times every few weeks just to subside the urge within the first few weeks of me stopping the weed. Mental strength is key.

Canada | 50 Year Old Male (Using Since Age 21)

Screwed up my life pretty badly running from trauma issues, covering up real feelings – this coupled with undiagnosed autoimmune disorders and poorly treated pain (with legitimate prphylaxis).  Once I had enough body pain under control with the prophylaxis, I stopped smoking cannabis (or using oil, etc.).  It was then, after 6 weeks, I realized I’d also gbeen covering up deep mental pain and trauma.  Made a lot of choices I wouldn’t have had I been straight in the head.

  • Habit: Rolled with tobacco. I did not use a lot each time; just enough to “help”.  Thus, rolling with tobacco made it better for me, as other methods weren’t working with the small amounts… – Daily, sometimes 3 to 4 times daily.  Started at 21 a few times a week after a partner died, with alcohol.  In my 40s, was a few times a day due to body pain (I did not know about my autoimmune disorders, didn’t realize how much I was self-medicating for physical pain until I tried to stop…)
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: Depression, lethargy, insomnia, and a bleak outlook. Having trouble accepting the choices I made while a cannabis user for almost 25 years.  It wasn’t me, it isn’t me.  Now, I’m very ill with a host of issues, and surprisingly, the last thing I want to do is go back to “making the pain go away”.  I can deal with the body pain with the medications – the mental anguish, I’m facing on my own.  It’s hard.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: One day after stopping.
  • Withdrawal Tips: Sometimes too much online time, which isn’t good for me, as I have Electro HyperSensitivity and Migraine Disease.  Other than that, no.  Determined not to go back – one of my medications has to go, as well, as it isn’t for pain.  I did that once cold turkey, but using cannabis to alleviate the very difficult first month.  I’m preparing my mind for what’s coming =- stopping that drug without cannabis.  It’s going to be tough, I have to get tougher…

Canada | 21 Year Old Male (Using Since Age 19)

I disliked the dependency that I had on weed and I believe it is extremely important to enjoy life naturally without any drugs since you cannot use drugs to escape reality forever. I have stopped enjoying life as it is and spent the majority of the day thinking of the next time I’ll get high. On a day-to-day basis I have felt withdrawal symptoms that have been outlined by this website but only in a minor way. I noticed that I stopped making memories as well and just felt like a human slug most of the time.

  • Habit: Typically bowl, edibles and joint occasionaly – daily
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: I have experienced lots of depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance which this website has outlined perfectly. These withdrawal symptoms have happened at different times than outlined in the week guide to withdrawals, obviously because every brain is different. But after a week I definitely started feeling like I’m coming back to normal. I have also been quite more irritated about things, so this website has hit the hammer head on the nail quite well. This website has also helped me become more self-concious about what’s going on in my brain and helped me settle down.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: As quickly as day 2
  • Withdrawal Tips: I have been surrounded by family and I have lot’s of support during this. I have also changed my living environment to something completely different and just naturally satisfying. I have left my environment where I smoked just to get by through my day. This has helped me a lot with temptation to get back – as I have none.

Want to get pregnant

  • Habit: bong – Daily, 3-4 times a day – not heavily but not lightly, maybe 1/8 a week?
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: Yes, but milder then previous times as I tapered this time instead of going cold turkey. I also recently experienced a miscarriage (2 week ago) which has been very sad, so I have been crying a lot – the depression I feel is likely not related to withdrawal. However, I am feeling increased anxiety (this started when I began to taper and has continued), as well as stomach bloating and bad reflux, mild squeezing headache, clumsiness/forgetfulness, feeling antisocial, fatigue, although I have been sleeping ok (hard to fall asleep but still getting 7-8 hours.) Don’t really feel like doing much. I began taper 2.5 months ago when I learned I was pregnant but wasn’t able to stop completely as pregnancy caused a lot of mental health issues for me.

I had quit for a few months, life was going so good. The relationship got very stressful and I started smoking again. This only made it worse as I know deep down I relapsed to old traits, anxiety, depression, and more. I changed a lot again from the person I was when I met my most recent ex to the person I am today.

California | 59 Year Old Male (Using Since Age 35)

Memory issues, very high tolerance and only get slight high regardless of amount dabbed.  Used concentrates exclusively every 2-3 hours via dabs (1/2 gram per day).   Zero motivation and complete loss of desire to do anything productive.   Also exacerbated appearance of eye floaters, dry eyes, became lazy and very uninspired about anything and lost interest in living life and became too content for too long on advancing my career and avoidance of any responsibility.  Not so much an addiction, but more of a crutch to deal with life in general.

  • Habit: Water pipe for cannabis extracts – Dabbed 90% THC concentrates every 2-3 hours 6 a.m. and stopped at 8-9 p.m. before bedtime.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: Stomach malaise, no appetite and restlessness by day 2 of cessation. Days 3-5 anxiety and hostile angry over most minor issues in addition to stomach nausea.  Days 6-10 feelings of depression and anxiety come in waves, lack of ability to concentrate and think fluidly or process ideas and thoughts or articulate as when using daily.   Only cravings for use was knowing that symptoms from withdrawal would abate if took one hit, but held strong.  Day 12-14 notice reduction in symptoms in edginesses and aggitation and hostile feelings with slight improved concentration and diminished brain fog.   Spend less time being unproductive and more involved with everyday life.   Did not experience headaches or vivid dreams as of yet.   Sleep issues have not been of great significance but am feeling tired during first 2-weeks of quitting.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: 12-hours after last use
  • Withdrawal Tips: Stopped drinking caffeinated beverages, daily walks, research on internet on others going through same process and educate myself on what to expect through the withdrawal process. Kept positive knowing a better, clearer and more productive future on the horizon awaits at end of 4th week.

California | 26 Year Old Male (Using Since Age 14)

Simple. Cannabis use started to impact my most valuable relationships. My significant other, and my relationship with myself. I started to become dillusional and apathetic to the entire world, and as a result, every healthy habit I have ever worked for suffered. I’m relatively young, but I wasted 12 years of mental development at its most critical state, and now I’m paying the price for it.

  • Habit: Whatever I could get my hands on. I preferred flower in a bong bowl, but also heavily used a dab set up, and vape pen for concentrates. I used edibles on occasion, but not frequently. – Due to easy access, I was using 1-3g of flower, and/or .5-1.5g of concentrate daily. On heavier days it could be up to 5g of flower, or 2g of concentrate of varying quality.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: I applaud anyone who is capable of quitting heavy concentrate use without any issues. My symptoms are primarily anxiety related; extreme depression, loss of appetite, inability to concentrate, difficulty helping myself, decreased cognitive function, boredom, cravings for cannabis, and irritability.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: The first day, but worsened greatly over the next couple weeks.
  • Withdrawal Tips: Of course. One of the good things about being miserable all the time is eventually deciding you need to do something about it or you’re going to die. It triggers a fight or flight response for me. This is stressful, but it forces me to practices meditative breathing, being vulnerable with my partner, and trying things I haven’t done before when I was too high to consider it. Trying new hobbies, applying to jobs I haven’t done before, all of that good stuff. Also, investing time into hobbies I already have.

  • Habit: Vape oil pen, or flower vape – Most days I would consume weed in the evening and again later at night.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: The first couple weeks, I felt very bored and craved weed because nothing seemed as interesting or rewarding without it. I felt depressed. After about 3 weeks, my mood had begun to improve. I began to feel much more clear headed, and driven to be productive. Also my libido began to increased back to normal levels. Also after 3 weeks, I have recently had trouble falling asleep at night.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: Cravings for weed, bordum, and depressive mood began within a couple days and lasted for about 3 weeks, but started improving after about 2 weeks. After week 3, I started having some issues falling asleep at night.
  • Withdrawal Tips: I did not let myself do things like look at reddit on my phone, social media, porn, and other mindless things. I told myself that I could either sit there and do nothing, or do something productive, interactive, or stimulating for dopamine. Eventually, I started enjoying doing productive things more.

About Weedless.org

Weedless.org is a free, web-based resource and community created by a team of healthcare professionals and researchers. We distill the facts about marijuana use and its effects into practical guidance for interested persons or for those who are thinking about or struggling to quit weed. Finding reliable, easy to understand information about marijuana should never be a struggle—that is why our core mission is to provide the most up to date information about marijuana use, abuse, addiction, and withdrawal. While we seek to empower individuals to have control over their use, we are not “anti-weed” and we support efforts to legalize adult marijuana use and study.
