I gradually realized that I had grown a dependence. After years of smoking almost daily but thinking “I can quit whenever”, I saw crystal clear that I was stuck in a loop, I was not progressing in life. Thanks to philosophy and spirituality, I think I solved many of the mental dynamics that used to torture me, and used to interfere with my sleep, that is why I started using weed daily in the first place, to sleep. To improve memory, and so I am more serious in life about achieving goals, etc.

  • Habit: Bong + large bowl piece – I would smoke about 1/8-1/4 oz of weed a week. Or, I’d smoke about 7-8 bowls a day WITH tobacco.

I usually go night 1 of quitting with no sleep, and sometimes night 2. I also usually am not able to eat anything on day 1 though I TRY. Because the less I eat, the less I want to eat. And that doesn’t help with quitting in general (having no energy cuz I’m not fueling my body, that is). Another symptom is EXTREME energy. I feel like on adderall honestly! I talk fast and can’t stop thinking at night. I also sometimes catch myself grinding my jaw within that first week of quitting

California | 18 Year Old Male (Using Since Age 16)

Every time I smoked for a two week or so period I felt anxious and overwhelmed, I also read about cannabis induced personality disorder and am convinced, given my background and year of smoking, that I’ve fucked myself and ruined my life.

  • Habit: In any and all forms except edibles, with joints, blunts, bong/pipe bowls, and dabs out of a rig being the most common. I did take some edibles but they did not seem to affect me so I didn’t continue. – For the first year, a few times a month. For the 2nd year, every day multiple times.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: Psychosis (?) during the first few days, intense anxiety, depression, insomnia, restlessness, inability to focus, deep persistent chest pain.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: By the end of the first 24 hours I noticed I was off kilter, by day 4 I was hardly competent or functional. I am now on day 7 and I am persisting only with the hope that my extreme discomfort at the moment can be attributed to withdrawal.

I believe this is a balancing act. I have also rid my environment of as many triggers as possible (though my roommate still smokes so it’s not entirely in my control).

Texas  | 26 Year Old Female (Using Since Age 20)

It’s not legal in my state and I need to get drug tested regularly. Aside from that, weed is a coping mechanism for me which I no longer want to use it as.

  • Habit: bluntzzz – everyday
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: I’m on day 7 of being clean and really, really want to smoke. It just provides instant relief like nothing else can. Psychologically it’s a quick route to broadening perception and letting go of things that really don’t matter in the bigger scope of life. But physically, physically is what I seek out the effects of mostly. My entire body relaxes, my breath deepens, any pain instantly subsides. I suppose this biological effect helps create the calm emotional and mental environment concurrently. I’m not going to relapse, but it’s bothersome enough that I needed to google day 7 withdrawal symptoms, which is how I found this page. It helps to write things out so thank you for providing this resource. 🙂
  • Timing of Withdrawal: the day after stopping
  • Withdrawal Tips: yeah lots of things, i’ve quit a couple times since i’ve first begun using. what helped the most was deeper inquiring into the discomfort that pushed me to want to run away from who i am and decisions i’ve made presently. i made a lot of changes, small and big. cut off certain relationships that weren’t helping me grow in the ways i knew i needed to. examining habits that became my lifestyle. having the courage to believe i could pursue my passions. noting what was actually serving me and what was just a conveniently disguised distraction. seeking help where i needed it.

Washington | 31 Year Old Female (Using Since Age 15)

I became addicted to it and smoked and used edibles the entire day from when I woke up to the evening. It was affecting my relationships and my quality of life. I used it recreationally at first and then to medicate for pain as well. I’ve been using since I was 15yrs old and have only quit once before this and only for a couple months. Otherwise, pretty much daily use all day long.

  • Habit: All of the ways. I had a vape pen on my person at all times, I ate weed edibles all day long, including distillate and tinctures, I also smoked a joint or some bing rips a few times a day as well. Then I would eat even more edibles before bed to make sure I slept well all night long – All day every single day
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: Yes, 1st day I felt fine just no appetite. The 1st night I lay awake with insomnia. 2nd day the sweating and shakes started up. They got progressively worse throughout the evening and by then I had a horrible headache as well. I slept better but woke up on 3rd day completely drenched in sweat and with stomach pain, diarrhea, and nausea and even worse headache which lasted all day. Now it’s 3rd night and I feel like I have the flu, still no appetite and cravings are incredibly strong. I just keep thinking if I could have just one hit I’d feel better.
  • Timing of Withdrawal: Day 1
  • Withdrawal Tips: I’ve been using valerian root extract at night before bed, other than that just trying to stay rested and eat well

About Weedless.org

Weedless.org is a free, web-based resource and community created by a team of healthcare professionals and researchers. We distill the facts about marijuana use and its effects into practical guidance for interested persons or for those who are thinking about or struggling to quit weed. Finding reliable, easy to understand information about marijuana should never be a struggle—that is why our core mission is to provide the most up to date information about marijuana use, abuse, addiction, and withdrawal. While we seek to empower individuals to have control over their use, we are not “anti-weed” and we support efforts to legalize adult marijuana use and study.
