Abstinence from Heavy Marijuana Use Can Cause Stomach Upset

By August 31, 2020June 15th, 2023149 Comments
Line Drawing of Intestines

One of the most common marijuana withdrawal symptoms is GI upset. This can manifest as nausea, loss of appetite, or food aversion, where the thought of food seems unpalatable.

Eating is one of the many joys that makes us human, and enhancement of the subjective experience of eating may have been one of the primary pleasures you derived from using marijuana.

Feeling unable to eat, turned off by the plate before you, or physically uncomfortable during acute marijuana withdrawal can be incredibly vexing and disappointing.

The good news is that, even though GI upset is the commonest physical symptom of marijuana withdrawal, it tends to be of quicker onset, quick peak intensity, and shorter duration than other marijuana withdrawal symptoms.

GI upset is the most common physical symptom of marijuana withdrawal, affecting over 50% of users attempting to abstain, and can manifest itself in a multitude of ways.

It might be nausea, food aversion, or loss of appetite. Others may have upset stomach, or stomach pains. Less frequently, people may suffer from transient episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, and fortunately, these symptoms occur in less than 10% of users.

While up to 29% of people will experience an acute decrease in appetite, both mild weight gain and weight loss are seen, and are the direct result of changes in amount of food intake (Levin, Drug Alcohol Depend, 2010).

Though it may be difficult, the best way to get through this phase is to try and adhere to a normal meal schedule, and not by absence of hunger signals coming from your brain. If you don’t feel hungry, try to eat smaller portions, or otherwise consume healthy snacks throughout the day.

Your body needs food in order to recover and function—even if your brain isn’t passing along the message appropriately. Make sure you give your body the fuel it needs to tackle these hurdles, and rest assured that your appetite will eventually return.

We distill the facts about marijuana use and its effects into practical guidance for interested persons or for those who are thinking about or struggling to quit weed. Finding reliable, easy to understand information about marijuana should never be a struggle—that is why our core mission is to provide the most up to date information about marijuana use, abuse, addiction, and withdrawal. While we seek to empower individuals to have control over their use, we are not “anti-weed” and we support efforts to legalize adult marijuana use and study.

    • Brandon J Smith says:

Yes I am having lots of discomfort after quitting..
I used for over 20+ years and have stopped for roughly 54 days now.. my stomach has never been the same..

      • Nathan Pilcher says:

Don’t sweat, 54 days clean is still early stages. The first time I quit it took around 6 months for all the withdrawal symptoms to pass fully. Keep holding on!

Thanks so much for this am only on day 3 and this was a relapse after quitting for some time before never got past the stomach stage as yet.

Same! I’ve used MJ multiple times a day for 20 years and my stomach has been a mess since quitting . It’s so sensitive to everything . I’m 29 days clean

I’ve been a daily user for about the past 2 years since I got my medical card. I started experience mid-epigastric pain and nausea over the last few weeks that won’t go away and it interferes with my daily activities. I’ve now abstained for 4 days and my symptoms still have not gone away. Just wondering when I may start to feel better. I have no desire to use it anymore, it’s not worth this discomfort.

        • Raf says:

it gets better I quit weed when I was 17 after using for 4 years and I quit in 1 week I felt like shit for a month but after a year went by I felt like myself again by year 2 don’t even think about it anymore and perfectly fine again actually sleep on command lol no more stomach issue other then the ones I already had.

      • Johnpaul says:

I have sopped 45 days after 36 years daily use. I am 33 year old female been smoking marajuana for 17 years (joints) every day. I quit last month and I have been bloated for the whole time. I didnt realize it could be from the THC withdrawal – I talked to doctors, had blood work done thinking it was hormonal, but all my tests came back normal. I should also add that I have been plant based for 3 years now and eat very clean and little to no sugar or processed foods. I also quit drinking alcohol when I quit weed. But the bloating has been very uncomfortable. I think the THC receptors in my stomach and digestive system are confused after becoming adapted regularly to my marajuana intake. It is very interesting that there is little to no information online about the bloating specifically. Virtually none. But I am convinced that this is where the bloating is coming from. I will wait it out, still only been a month clean and I am looking forward to normalization!

      • H says:

Heyyy I hear you. This is so frustrating. May I ask how you are feeling with the bloating a month after?
I haven’t stopped using, it’s too hard, just spacing it out, but I have been having these symptoms (extreme bloating) after not smoking for a few hours, so basically every night, around 3, 4 am, I am awoken with discomfort and can’t go back to sleep. This has been going on for 2 years. Of course, I will need to eventually stop using.

        • Madison says:

Have you tried CBD?? I was in serious pain from withdrawals, went to the ER, got absolutely no help lol, but Quora users said they found CBD helps and I’ve found the same. It’s literally the only thing I’ve found that works and believe me IT WORKS 🙌 Couldn’t be happier with the result.

          • Carolynn says:

I’ve got the vape from hempura, hasn’t half helped with the sickness. Last time I quit I was heavily sick for 6 weeks coupled with what was like smokers flu. Have no intention of taking up vaping now just 3-4 puffs when symptoms start of an evening maybe another 2-3 and that’s it.

          • Adam says:

I’m currently on day 3 after smoking daily for best part of 23 years The stomach cramps started on day 2 and although I’m currently taking cbd to combat the insomnia the cramps are yet to ease so I wouldn’t say cbd is alleviating them Tomoro I’m going to brew some fresh ginger tea and see if this helps Wish me luck 🍀

      • Tom says:

        Hi Mia,
I couldn’t agree more. I’m currently on my third attempt at quitting and every single time I’ve experienced serious bloating, passing of gas and a general sense of an upset stomach. I’m often constipated and don’t release my bowels as much as I did when I smoked. My diet has not changed, I ate healthy whilst smoking and continue with the same diet also now.

I was wondering if, having passed another month since your previous post, you have noticed any settlement with your stomach?

        Thanks

        Tom

      • Ozzy says:

This happens to me all the time. I’m 27 and have been smoking for about 7 years now. This is my forth time trying to quit and every time I try I get so bloated I can barely fit food into my stomach. Sometimes I wet biscuits and slide them down just to eat something. Because the bloating is so horrible, I gag at the idea of putting food in my mouth.

I’ve found that peppermint tea, exercise (specifically sit ups) and mineral water helps with the bloating a bit, but not substantially. It really bothers me that there isn’t more information on this and ways to prevent it or deal with it!

        Stay strong everyone!

        Cheers

heavy user for 20 years and after quitting i had extreme acid reflux and gas, bloating, for many weeks. it’s been 6 weeks now and things are sorta back to normal. there needs to be more clinical research done into why this happens. it’s very scary and relentless.

      • Adriana Lemus says:

I too am 33 years old. I’ve been smoking weed for 7 years. I quit cold turkey 10 days ago. I am bloated. Appetite is non existent. And when I do force myself to eat a few bites (because I can’t finish a full meal) I get very nauseous. I had blood work done 5 days ago. I thought there was something wrong with my thyroid. Blood work came back all normal. This feels terrible. I can’t wait to be able to eat and feel “norma” again.

        • Ariel L says:

I’m also 33, been smoking for about 7 years. This is my 3rd or 4th time quitting over the years.
I’m not bloated but very gassy. My appetite is gone. My tummy always feels queasy. When I eat or try to eat I can only eats a couple bites before feeling full or nauseous.
I’m losing weight which scares me because I’m already a tiny female 411 and under 100lbs. I’m down to 90lbs now.

    • Ethan says:

Same with me day 4 without it. My appetite is coming back slowly but my stomach hurts when i try and eat. Drinking water with food helps. Been smoking since i was 14 (21 as of now). Cold turkey sucks but im not gonna give up

Sounds like everyone is getting sick from “Street Weed”, Any weed not purchased from a licensed dispensary is usually unregulated or tested for toxins. Who knows what street dealers add to Marijuana, especially if their stuff is trash. I heard people in prison smoke cigarettes laced with bug killer to get high. So just be aware that your neighborhood dealer may be spraying insecticide near his precious plants.

Lost my appetite too but just eating small bits throughout the day I’m not that bothered about that as I’m losing weight anyway . First two nights I didn’t sleep at all I’m finally getting to sleep at the moment so it’s all trail and error I don’t normaly get stomach cramps but my husband always does and suffers with the pain more then me and constantly feels sick I didn’t really think it was thing .. and oh god wasn’t I wrong !!

Now I wake up everyday before 5am with bad stomach cramps and really bad burping it gets uncontrollable. Is there any help or anything to help get past the bad burping I miss sleeping past 5?

How long does it take to withdraw

    • Nathan Pilcher says:

Depends on use, how often, what grade the weed was etc. It also depends on your own body. Anywhere between 1-6 months have been my experiences

  • Anonymous says:

I hope this ends soon. Today was day 4 without cannabis. Headaches and diarrhea are still occurring

    • Anonymous says:

It will. Last time I tried quitting I thought I’d never feel better again. At one stage I thought I may even die because of the anxiety, chest pains and digestion issues. After two weeks worst of the physical withdrawals eased. Well at least I didn’t feel like killing myself due to pain. After a month I actually started to feel more like my old self (whoever she was as I’ve been a chronic hydroponics smoker using bongs for over 35 yrs). I found natural, unsweetened Greek yoghurt settled my tummy and although I hate carrots and oranges, this was all I craved as I got better. Hang in there, it’s so worth it. I’m currently on day two withdrawals of my second attempt. Today I couldn’t walk because of unbearable cramping and pins and needles up and down my legs. Feeling like my insides are all squished together. What keeps me hanging in there is knowing it does get better. Good luck!!

      • Nin says:

look up the list of trigger foods. pretty sure carrots are on there and we’re not supposed to consume them. just fyi

I was a regular everyday smoker for 6 years, I have now stopped and it’s been a week. Defiantly feeling much better than the beginning my stomach was the worst thing bothering me A LOT and I couldn’t eat anything except salitines. I will say after going through this I will never do it again because it was absolutely awful !

  • Adam says:

I have been an off and on smoker for 30 years. I have stopped smoking pot in that time with the longest run of 10 years. I am a 43 year old male. I stopped again 4 days ago. It hard for me to get outta bed and go to work. I feel heavy and depressed. I’m so tired all the time and I have stomach pains and no appetite. I feel emotionally and physically drained. I smoke approx 3+ oz a month not including 1g infused joint “firecracker” mainly sativa and hybrids at the end of my work day every day. I hope this subsides soon.

    • Adam says:

Update: Day 10. Still have loud bubbly stomach & guts. Not in as much pain and I am not as depressed. I went 5 full days with no eating or drinking. On day 6 after loosing 10 lbs I started forcing myself to drink some oat milk which started working on bring my appetite back. I had a slight headache on day 3 – 5 most likely due to dehydrations. Day 7 I could finally eat and not feel nausea. I mainly stuck with oat milk, water and rice with a little soy sauce. I figured it may help me retain water. As many time as I have stopped smoking, this was the first time I had these symptoms. I also never smoked as much as I did prior. I am feeling much better and still on the mend. I hope anyone who is having issues just practice self love and patients. This is never an easy thing to do cold turkey with no support. Be strong and find some compassionate friends that you can talk to without judgement. Also look into the reason why you are using a mind altering drug. You may find an underlining issue as to why you are using. For me I was using it as an antidepressant and not paying attention to the why or side effects. Good luck on your journeys my friends and I will update soon.

      • Barry says:

I am the exact same way, not to sure if you have but look up CHS “cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome” so much to read on it, I was in the emergency room last year hooked up to fluids cause i could not physically eat without puking or gagging and same with water, my organs were starting to shut down but my quick thinking i headed to the hospital at 6am, ever since then i’ve always kept getting episodes and as i’m typing right now my stomach hurts and I feel nauseous butttt it’s like at the point where i’ve had this almost every day since so i’m very used to the pains and discomfort, I did quit for abit and felt amazing but my brain was always so bored and i got hooked back into it.

      • Adam says:

I am feeling much better now. Still have bubbly stomach. I’m doing more self care than I ever have. I am also finding out I have other addictions as well that I have been dealing with. Quiting smoking weed has helped these problems surface. Luckily I am a vary mindful person and I have a compassionate partner that has helped me get through the steps needed in a positive healthy way. I still feel like smoking every day which sucks. It also does not help working next door to a grow warehouse. I’m almost 7 weeks from smoking and so glad I stopped. Also I am saving a minimum of $400 a month now so it is nice to have extra cash in my pocket.

      • Anonymous says:

Hey Adam, I was wondering how you came up with the thought that you were using weed as an antidepressant and how you fixed it.

        • Adam says:

It’s been awhile since my last post. It’s been insanely busy as I have started a business while working a 40+ an hour job. As for the question on how I can up with the thought that I was using it as an antidepressant. It didn’t come to me easy. It took a lot of mindfulness and compassion for myself. I had to dig really deep and go through some painful things I had been repressing. Long story short, when I smoked I felt better. It made me not care about my thoughts and distracted me from things that I got bullied for when I was a kid. The things that make people run the other way because it easier to ignore it or deny it. Vulnerability, shame, fear, depression, anxiety and many others. People are so disconnected from themselves and others. I am so much better now and have no issues anymore. I have no craving and my life is getting better because I make the effort to be better and do better. That’s the really hard part. Being consistent for yourself and do what you say and follow through. I hope you all are getting better. My heart goes out to you all.

          • Adam says:

It’s been over a year since my last post. I have not used any drugs for 2 1/2 years and feel pretty good. I now own 2 successful business and only able to do that though hard work and saving the money I was throwing away by purchasing marijuana and mind altering substances. I wish you all the best of luck and the will power to overcome these hard obstacles. if you do and have discipline, you can make the changes you want and get better. it will take time.

Jesus Christ been using Cannabis every day for five years now. The two days I tried quitting was the worst days of my life. I easily get angry .I can’t sleep and my tommy hurts as fuck. I don’t think I can quite. The withdrawal symptoms are just so annoying

Heavy smoker for 4 years of very potent strains. Been a month since I quit and my stomach is still a mess

  • Is it recommended to ween of of it slowly? I’ve been smoking roughly 8 grams of wax every week for almost 4 years. I quit for 2 days and I feel like my body almost shut down on me

    • Anonymous says:

Yes, weaning off slowly can reduce withdrawal symptoms, but it’s hard because you are still using and can slip right back in to habitual use if you aren’t being pretty meticulous about the weaning process. I sometimes use tinctures to wean off because I just love the whole ritual of smoking too much

  • Anonymous says:

I’ve been smoking weed for the past 7 years. I went strong for the first 4 years, but began using on and off due to Rehabs and substance abuse programs for my addiction to fentanyl and Xanax. Started smoking weed again daily a little while ago, and now I found out I’m pregnant. I let the doctor know I had been smoking before I found out, and she said it was fine as long as I stop now. Withdrawals are killing me. I am vomiting as soon as I wake up and all throughout the day. On top of morning sickness, this shit is kicking my fucking ass. I feel nauseous 24/7, food looks and sounds disgusting to me; but I have to eat. I’ve been trying to consume small meals and snacks throughout the day. I am going diarrhea over 10 times a day. The insomnia and cold/hot sweats are back. Headaches. Irritability and moodiness. I have never been able to quit marijuana on my own, except when I replaced it with hard drugs. Or went into treatment and was given all sorts of anti-nausea medication, sleeping pills, Suboxone, and Ativan to ease the pain. But that is not an option now. I knew this day would come, and God am I regretting choosing to smoke again. Getting off suboxone was hard enough and now this bullshit? Hahah I can’t wait till the day I feel normal again. I had 5 months sober before this and felt fucking great. Then I get out of sober living and find myself faded ALL day EVERY day since. This is for the better though, I can’t keep living like this. I just don’t want to end up in the hospital because my baby isn’t getting the nutrients it needs. Fuck man

  • Nate says:

On day 13 and my stomach still hurts. Eating sugary stuff makes me feel so nauseous but I’m fine eating salty things. Luckily the headaches and insomnia stopped. I just want my stomach to go back to normal. I would’ve been one month clean but I couldn’t handle the withdrawals the first time around and I think smoking two weeks ago just intensified it. Let’s see if I’ll feel normal after a month. :/

  • Miles says:

I’m 36 days clean, my digestion is crazy, I’m using magnesium to help me sleep and am dreaming nightly again, and sleeping almost all the way through the night. I’m 50 and was a smoker since I was 22 with a few breaks in those years, once for over a year and some months. I know quitting was going to be hard, but I didn’t realize HOW difficult it would be because I didn’t realize HOW strong they make the stuff today, nor did I really understand how MUCH I was using in the end. I am so glad I’m out of it now, but after a doctor visit it turns out my potassium level was at heart failure high yesterday. It was actually a relief to hear that because at least there was a REASON for all of my stomach pain and diarrhea, now I can adjust my lifestyle to get myself back to a balanced version of myself. Grateful to have found this thread, the hypertension in withdrawal is such a rollercoaster and it helped me feel like I wasn’t alone or off the track completely. I hope this helps someone else out there who’s struggling to make sense of quitting too.

    • Trevor says:

I have the same potassium problems at the moment and I’m not sure if it because of weed or a different issue and that is what is making me scared. So just a quick question is your potassium being high because of the fact that you smoked weed and you quit. I just quit 2 weeks ago and honestly that is the part atm I’m most scared about I just am hoping it is the fact that I quit and not any underlying health issues.

I’m a 67 year old and I’ve been a heavy user for 35 years and smoked every day. I’m now on day 12 and am experiencing every symptom you have all described. The worst part is my stomach pain, I even had this whilst smoking (I did not think that this was caused by my addiction). The pain was intense but has now started to lessen, with what I’ve read I’m expecting the pain to continue for about 90 days with a bit of luck. I find it hard to cope with every day life at the moment I feel what’s the point.

Breathing exercises release the stress and make you feel somehow high🙃

After the first week I manage to eat normally..
Now I’m on day 18.. I feel better for sure, but stomach is still very upset and sometimes I still feel anxious.. I started to think that I could be sick and to have some serious stomach problems (when I think about this anxiety increase a lot).. now reading that this is not uncommon gave me some reliefs.

Do you think I can hope to solve this problem in the next week? I really feel like I’m dying sometimes (but I know that is anxiety speaking.. before reading this I was seriusly thinking to book colonoscopy and gastroscopy).

    Thanks in advance to everybody!

Over & above I was also an alcoholic. I quit both cold turkey and this is my fourth day, symptoms are not as severe as the first time apart from the anxiety & depression which is breaking me apart. My stomach is a mess, nausea & diarrhea was very high on first 2 days but is not so much now on day 4. Am glad I found this forum and really feeling encouraged to push through this time round.

Hey guys, it’s such a relief to read all of these comments. I’m currently one week off, still experiencing morning nausea and loss of appetite. I’m 24years male started smoking when I was 19, on and off and then on for 2years every day. Had a year break then smoked again for only a month heavily recently. Symptoms were not as bad as coming off of years of smoking but still horrible considering. I genuinely would love to write a book on these truths that we are speaking of. In terms of social media and weed advertising, there is hardly any mention of what happens when you stop smoking. New users don’t know what they’re getting into. The mainstream boasting that it’s the cure for all ailments when in actuality it causes them. CBD though on the other hand is quite amazing, especially for Parkinson’s etc. But thc wreaks more havoc than good, both neurologically and physiologically. It’s time we start spreading what’s really going on so people can see through all this weed propaganda and social pressure to be “chill” and “cool man”. We can pave the way to practicing healthier and sustainable methods that replace marijuana use, like meditation, forms of exercise, nature induced relaxation, and herbal supplements like teas (mint, chamomile) and Ayurvedic herbs like ashwaganda and holy basil said to help with anxiety. I feel it’s still everyone’s choice whether to explore weed or not but everyone should at least know what they’re getting into.

Much love to all of you, your symptoms will pass and you’ll see it’ll all be worth it. I highly recommend nausea tablets (can purchase from pharmacy) for nausea/vomiting, completely takes those away. Teas, peppermint, ginger to help with prolonged nausea and hot baths and showers help ease anxiety and other symptoms. (Can also use these in oil form and rub on tummy, soothes stomach cramps and nausea)

Lavender/chamomile teas/oils can help aid sleep/relaxation. Ice blocks, jelly, crackers are my suggestions as foods for the first few days if your having problems eating. I couldn’t eat anything for the first 3 days, don’t worry your body will recover.

All the best to all of you, your doing the right thing.

  • Sol says:

Hey guys, names Sol, 26 year old. This isn’t the first time I try quitting weed. I’ve been a heavy smoker since 2020, basically when the pandemic started. What amazed me was, after so little time of consumption, everytime I’d “quit” temporarily, I would already get sick, and by sick, I just don’t mean stomach ache, I mean back to back vomitting, retching, gagging over any movement, insomnia, cold sweats, moodswings, not being able to pee because the diarrea is so extreme (i’m sorry, I just want to portray every single symptom) even depressed because I feel like since I can’t eat (NO APPETITE AT ALL), I can’t recover myself. Currently I quit weed last Thursday, and Friday afternoon already symptoms started. Ever since then, I’ve been a mess. Sunday afternoon I decided to go get me hooked up at the ER so I could receive liquids and antinausea/diarrea medication, it has been working perfectly. Appetite only hits when I think about mcdonalds cheeseburgers (don’t ask me why, but this has been the only meal I’ve ever been able to cope with whilst withdrawling. I definitely believe I have the Weed Hyperemesis Syndrome.

I’ve noticted that for the past 2 months, I’ve been consuming multiple times daily because I was depressed (trying to get out of it but it’s very hard with the withdrawling). So if anyone wants to hang out over Discord, talk about this, I would really appreciate it.

  • Brooke says:

    Hey guys!

I am a 24yr old female. I have smoked marijuana heavily (~5g/day) for 6 years now. I have gone to the ER 7 times over the past 4 years with cyclical vomiting. Every time i went, the doctors said i had CHS (Cannabanoid Hyperemisis Syndrome) & told me i should stop smoking marijuana. It was of course very hard to hear because of the length of time i had been smoking it. I always told myself when i left the ER, i was going to quit. It would last for 2-3 days depending on how nauseous i was. I would start smoking again because i THOUGHT it helped with my severe anxiety/depression. I recently visited a psychiatrist & he diagnosed me with the severe anxiety/depression. He said the weed probably made it worse. After hearing so many doctors & then a psychiatrist tell me that all my problems are steming from smoking marijuana, i realized okay maybe i need to really try to quit. I knew the only way for me to do it was cold turkey. The last 2 days before I stopped, i was only hitting a bowl rarely. After those 2 days, i quit completely. It has been 5 days now since i have quit. I have horrible anxiety/depression, my stomach issues are constant, i cannot sleep at night, i sweat all night long, my mind is all over the place. Nothing seems to help. I’ve only been able to eat white rice, saltines, pretzels & i even got down a plain turkey sandwich. After reading all these stories & comments, it relieves me to know that as time goes on, the symptoms will get better. All i have to say to you guys is KEEP PUSHING!!!! We can do it to become a healthier & happier us! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I am 19 and I have been a daily weed smoker for the past 2 years. Before I used to just wait until the end of the day to light up but after my most recent ‘break’ from weed (I say ‘break’ cuz it only lasted 3 days and was 8 months ago) my routine became me waking up to go instantly smoke and then eat and then wait until after work to light up a bunch with my friends. I noticed that I began to have slight nausea and stomach pains in the morning but they weren’t bad and would always go away after I smoked. However one night my buddy decided that he wanted to smoke a lot. We ended up smoking like 4 bowls in 30 minutes which may not seem to bad but it was all out of a dirty bowl that he had for months and not cleaned. The next morning I woke up with the worst nausea I’ve ever experienced. I tried to smoke and it didn’t make me feel any better. The next day I still felt awful and when I went to light up took one hit and threw up everywhere. The next day I threw up multiple times in the morning but waited until the end of the day to smoke. The next day I didn’t smoke weed at all. Threw up multiple times, but just in the morning, and had trouble eating food. The next day I woke up feeling nauseous but didn’t throw up and was able to eat at around noon. I ended up smoking later that night and today (when I am writing this) I woke up with nausea but didn’t throw up. I was planning on just not smoking for a week or two but after smoking last night and waking up and not feeling any worse I don’t know if I can or should smoke at all. I don’t know whether this is CHS and I should stop smoking completely or if I just got weed sick cuz of the dirty bowl. I realize now that I need to take better care of myself when smoking but quitting smoking just sounds like something impossible that I would never do (partly because I may be addicted and partly because I like it too damn much). Anyway I spouted a bunch of information, just what’s been on my mind, if anyone reads this and has similar experiences feel free to share what helped, even if it means I may have to quit for a while (although I don’t think I’ll ever quit weed for good just need to get to a point where I use it healthily).

      • A mac says:

I quit for the exact same reasons and was told I have CHS. Quitting sucks but feeling no more sickness already after quitting. Yes there were withdrawal symptoms for a while but better than ER visits almost every morning for a month when I was still smoking.

  • No name says:

I quit 2 days ago after smoking a joint or two a day for the past 6 years approx. I quit to help my friend who has to clear out her piss before she can get her drivers license back. I’m doing this to support her and also because I still have the old programming that “weed is bad” and so have some guilt around it’s use.

Here’s the thing tho…what happens if we don’t quit? I don’t have kids and don’t plan on it. My life is pretty chill being a musician and just having a dog. I could easily smoke for the rest of my life and if it kills me early so fuckin what?

My stomach is going crazy the past 2 days and I’m going to go thru with this for 6 weeks like my friend and I said we would but after that I’m gonna start smoking again and never quit. Why quit? My life was just fine with weed in it. Much more enjoyable actually. I love the act of going for a smoke and just being quite with the world for a few minutes. It’s a meditation for me.

I don’t really know why we all think we have to quit….is it a money issue? That’s fair I guess. Family issues maybe? Idk.

The fact is there is nothing anyone HAS to achieve in life so why not enjoy by doing what you wanna do? And then die and it’s all over so really it makes no difference if you smoke or don’t.

As long as you can keep it positive, but when you start using all day it just steals your life, and I personally was too faded to notice. My biggest problem with quitting was bcs me and and an old GF started using it as a sex aid, so we would smoke to free our inhibitions and it would feel amazing – FF 20 years and your mind tells you every time you feel sad reach for a joint bcs nothing else feels as good or as free. I’m on day 9 after three years of regular use, and going thru it – depression, inability to sleep, irritability, diarrhea but I’m determined. – I used to believe it was the key to creativity, its not. Ultimately if you ahve a really strong mind you can use in moderation, but Weed creeps and awareness is key, especialy with the heavy strains they have now.

Honestly I felt the exact same way when I quit. I just quit for Sober October just to see how I would feel. I had smoked everyday all day for the last 14 years and I never really had a reason to quit. I feel like I never “really” abused it (I smoked a chillum pretty exclusively and usually take about 3 hits for each session probably 5-6 sessions a day) but I did realize that I was using more then other recreational users. I’m now 3 days sober and honestly don’t feel any better, I just want to smoke. I do have some stomach issues a little irritability but mostly just don’t really see why I chose to quit. I plan on holding out all of October but most likely will go back to smoking. I don’t really know if that’s a good choice but like you if it’s something I enjoy and it’s going to “kill me sooner” then I guess so be it. I do wish I could be a guy that doesn’t need to do it everyday but I have a weak mind and I’m not really sure what to do about that.

I am 19, and stopped smoking about 2 weeks ago. Before this, I smoked every night for about 2 years straight. I have noticed a significant difference in my productivity levels, they are much better now. But I have been having some weird stomach issues, mostly constipation! I read through every single comment and no one else mentioned constipation. My stomach has also been growling quite a bit and I just have been feeling yucky. My best guess is the change in my diet due to not being so hungry. I haven’t been eating as much junk food, or snacking nearly as much. I can’t think of any other explanation to this issue than my lack of marijuana use! Hope this was helpful.

Hoping for things to go back to normal soon but drinking water and metamucil not really helping…only thing thats helped is taking laxettes every few days.. good luck

It also feels like everything I eat or drink upsets my stomach and makes me go to the bathroom. I thought I some how had gotten an ulcer. my family has no history of ulcers or any stomach issues at all. And I’ve always had a pretty strong stomach. But now I’m thinking it could it withdrawal. I’m going to talk to my doctor but am I reading this correctly that the symptoms are similar?

I am from a legal cannabis state in the US but live in a country where cannabis is illegal. Every time I go back to the US, I will consume several times a day, but then quite cold turkey when I return to country of residence. After having done so several times, it is quite obvious that my GI track gets all messed up when I stop – acidic stomach aches, stomach tightening and rumbling, gas and belching, etc. I will get hungry but then as soon as I start eating my appetite is gone and I can’t get more than a few bites down. Oily foods and meat are the worst. Non-oily vegetables, fruit, etc. are ok. The symptoms last 10 days to the day. By day 11, appetite is back with a vengeance and I am able to eat everything. No other withdrawal symptoms to speak of. Clearly though, the CBD receptors in my GI track get all out of whack. When I am consuming, the “munchies” is not really a thing. I eat very normally. There’s got to be some PhD theses out there for the taking to research the role of CBD receptors in the GI track…

As a former first responder, I used the stuff to get relief from the crap I had to deal with daily. I’ve been a heavy user for over 25 years, minus a couple of years for mandatory drug testing (I always passed). It got to the point that MJ was no longer getting me high. I wanted to quit, but it was terrible. I quit smoking cigarettes in the 1990s using a laser (acupuncture) treatment. The first time I thought about using it to quit MJ the cost was $500. I figured it worked for cigs, it would work for MJ. It triggered my brain into not getting the chemical urges. When I was ready, I checked on it about 6 months later, it was over $2,000.00. I’m a cheapskate, so I didn’t go. It’s like hypnosis; it only works on 80% of the people. What made me quit was my heart was beating with PVCs (Premature Ventricular Contractions). It felt as thou I was getting palpitations. I’m still waiting for my cardio appointment.

Fear is a wonderful thing. I quit, cold turkey, immediately. I’ve been off the stuff only for 4 weeks, but will never go back (live & learn). I am getting withdrawal symptoms and some of them are dissipating after time. I always went to the bathroom (#2) well, but now I seem to have a lot of gas. Since I’m an older guy (71), I eat prunes every day. Yuch! Still have the gas, but at least my toilet time is improving.

I always remember this commercial by Larry Hagman (J.R.Ewing) on TV for cigarettes, “Never quit quitting!” Hang in there, I am.

I have been an off and on smoker since 14 and I am now 64. Over the years I would smoke when I could find it but never went through any kind of withdrawal when I was not smoking. I stopped smoking in January of this year and went through horrible withdrawal symptoms and ending up in hospital dehydrated and low potassium. I made the mistake thinking I could smoke for about a month and quit with no problem. I am on my 5th day and I have all the symptoms again….nausea, gagging brushing teeth or thinking of eating, no sleeping, racing heart, anxiety, sweating profusely, irritability, heavy legs and overall just lethargic. What I would like to know is why could I stop with no problem for 45 years but now that I purchase legal pot in a dispensary, I have withdrawal symptoms? i don’t think pot is stronger nowadays because i got higher from pot bought from friends years ago. I also think the weed today tastes like chemicals.
Once I am thru this I hope I never go back again.

42, been smoking since I was 17. Between me n my wife was roughly an ounce a week down to a half ounce a week via hitters. Plus I eat handfuls of edibles and was doing 1-3 grams of dabs a week. Wouldn’t smoke it if it was less than 30% lately. Have been getting sick 1-2 times a year for about 6 years. Never thought it was the weed. Cut out dairy first then alcohol, then cut out chewing tobacco and everytime I got better for months and then bam!!! I’m laid up for 4-5 days throwing up and curled up in a ball screaming about how bad my stomach hurt until the next time I forced my hand down my throat to throw up. I started to know when it was coming on because I would lose my appetite threw out the day and only be able to eat once a day or not at all. I cut all processed food out all pop out. I’ve gone completely gluten free because that helped for a while. and then sick again. I’ve had endoscopies, colonoscopies blood tests ct scans, mri’s, they tested me for pancreatitis n pretty much everything else. N everything came back normal. Nothing. Dr “ next time you get sick come in to see me and we will try figuring it out. Well doc when I get sick the last place I want to be is in a hospital in a bed with all the lights on trying to answer questions while I’m I. Pain dry heaving and cramping in my stomach like someone is just kicking me over and over in the stomach. Well now we are here. Started 2 weeks ago. Monday threw Wednesday, I ate on breakfast in the morning and that was it for 3 days. I’d try to eat and have 2 bites and get so bloated or so sick to my stomach I wanted to puke. Or my stomach would just lock up and I just put my food away. I even had trouble eating fruit. I never have a hard time with fruit. So Wednesday of last week I got so pissed without eating I told my wife I’m done I quit. I’m not touching it anymore! So I quit. Well that when the fun started. I didn’t eat for probably 4 days nothing at all. Couldn’t stomach it couldn’t even think about food. Day 5 I start trying chicken broth which helped and slowly trying to eat apples and drink fruit smoothies. But I could only manage 1 of each a day for day 5,6. Day 7 I ate some corned beef hash small like 2 ounces. Day 8 I introduced dairy free and gluten free Mac n cheese and it tasted like the best food I had ever eaten. Was able to eat a bowl for lunch and dinner.. here were are on day 9 right now and I’ve had a smoothie 2 bowls of Mac n cheese n I’m trying gluten free pizza with no cheese. Because I need real food!! I need something to fill my stomach. And as with all the other food it’s taking me so long to eat it’s cold but at this point I don’t give a fuck because it’s food and I’m so hungry I’m gonna start chewing on my arms n legs. I have no problem sleeping anymore that lasted like 3 nights. Used melatonin to add my sleep. My bowel movements are none existent, but I’m guessing that’s cause I haven’t really eaten anything of substance in 9 days. My stomach is better then the first 6 days but it’s still tight and bloated and feels like it’s twisting and turning. Food smells so good to me and the thought of food makes my mouth water but as soon as I try to eat my stomach locks up

I’m 32 years old. It has been 22 days since completing stopping. After smoking 10x+ daily for 17 years. Heavy smoker. Dabs, leaf, vape, edibles. The abdominal pain is something I’m use to cause I was diagnosed with IBS and GERD 10 years ago. Smoking always helped get rid of those problems. But what has been hard for me is the severe anxiety! Panic attacks daily. Hydroxizine 25mg helps but I still wake up with fear of my health/life. Went to ER a few times already and was prescribed Trazodone 50 mg for a sleep aid. It has worked as of now I’m only waking up once during the night but now I can quickly fall back to sleep. Most of my family smokes including both parents so I have always been around it. This month I woke up one day and wanted to know who I am without being under influence. What mental or physical issues have I been covering up this whole time? Every important thing I’ve been through since the age of 14 I was under the influence of cannabis. My first goal is 1 year sober. No cannabis, alcohol, cut down heavily on sugar. Exercise! 11 months left to go. Wish me luck!

hi all, dealing with this as well. wanted to share a couple ideas: i also had the cannabis hypermesis syndrome, CHS, it set in after major foot surgery, cannabis suddenly became an allergen to me, the stomach pains, vomiting, AND constant hot baths/showers (even eating my meals in the tub). finally have a week clean off cannabis and my stomach is still a mess, forcing myself to eat, still burping non stop, but its getting better. capsesium cream (very small amount!) rubbed on the center of the stomach near the problem area calms the pain and makes me able to eat. the hot baths no longer help me and i feel silly now looking back on how i was taking multiple HOT baths a day thinking i was helping myself, no, i was just dehydrating myself. so if you are smoking AND sick, look into CHS, youve most likely become allergic to cannabis and must stop. I kept thinking the cannabis would help until i couldnt even swallow water. if you already have these issues and already stopped the capsesium cream helped BUT USE VERY SMALL AMOUNT ON SKIN IT WILL BURN. be well everyone. i never comment on things but this has been a mystery that seriously broke me. looking forward to a life without cannabis from here forward.

I’ve been heavily binging on marijuana in the form of joints and especially infused with extracts of marijuana. I’ve been a heavy user for about 13+ years and am an adult female in her 40s. I recently started cutting back to take a break from marijuana about 48 – 72 hours ago. After the first 24 hours I started feeling mild nausea and late into that 24 hours I forced myself to vomit as that’s what I normally do in those situations, but the nausea didn’t stop. I also felt a slight headache or lightheadedness. I had no desire to eat at all and only ate one meal that day. On the second day I forced myself to drink a protein smoothie and ate some vegetables in the afternoon despite not really feeling hungry. Typically I am the kind of person who gets hunger pangs at the very least if I’m hungry, but none of that is happening. In the evening of the 2nd day I made dinner, looked at my plate and had no desire to eat it. I forced myself to eat maybe half of my dinner and could simply not stomach anything else. At this point I drank wine as I was depressed, nauseous, and nothing else was palatable. That made things worse as I became dehydrated but still nauseous. Now it’s the 3rd day, drinking water and mint tea. I’ve always had a weak stomach since a child, and marijuana is something I’ve always used to help with nausea and it’s great. I mainly thought of taking a break because my tolerance was too high and it’s always good to take a break now and then. I am supremely regretting that now!

Seeing all these comments has literally made me feel so much better. Started to feel like there was something seriously wrong with me. On day 2 and the withdrawal symptoms happened within hours of stopping. I smoked a bout an ounce of weed every 3-5 days I was a chain smoker. I would roll up 10-15 in the morning. Some days I smoked all of them some days I smoked 75% some days I’ll roll a bunch and smoke the ones I left over from yesterday too. This was an everyday thing. I barely never had a blunt. I’m 31. I’m pretty strong willed and all so I wasn’t gonna stop quitting regardless but atleast this give me peace of mind. I quit because my air ways were getting inflamed for some reason and just felt like I was breathing thru a straw some days. All the other symptoms you guys mentioned I also have. Sweats, cold hot, craving thc, stomach issues. Have it all. Doesn’t really bother me to the point of breaking me but it is really fucking annoying like holy shit. Crazy thing is I quit for a year and started again 6 months ago because I thought my stomach problems weren’t letting me smoke weed. Once I felt the stomach problems go which took almost a year. I started again think I would be good. Well the stomach problems are back now and really bad on the withdrawal. If I didn’t have a solid mind to stick with this I can see the average person breaking down and relapsing. I used this stuff to cope with my life and depression. I rather just take a blunt to the face then deal with my problems at the time. But I wanna move pass this. I’m done with this phase of my life. Ready to do the next thing to level up myself. Good luck to everyone tho. This is brutal.

Day 5 almost Day 6…. Update… my withdrawal systems have lessened quite a bit. Still having some minor stomach issues but nothing I can’t beat, the 2nd day was really bad for me. I had the cold and hot sweats, burping like crazy, stomach aches, bathroom trips, sleepless night, hysteria, panic attacks l.. the works it freaked me out. I’ve gone thru a withdrawal before but it was never like this and just in the 2nd night. I did smoke an ounce a week but still very intense. Anyways Day 5 and everything feels very manageable. I have my small moments here and there where I’m extra irritable and I’m not eating much but I’m slowing eating more and more. It’s getting easier now. Hopefully you guys can get over the peak. The peak is what gets most people. Just get thru that peak and you’ll be golden and smooth sailing.

I feel so much less alone reading all of this from the last 2-3 years. I’ve been smoking for about 10 years now and it was co-morbid with a lot of other horrible habits so I knew it was time to stop and get control back. I’m pretty underweight so the loss of appetite and nausea has been devastating but I’m eating through it. It’s been a month and my insides are still fighting me every day while I try to rebuild my life from being totally devastated(I got fired and my car got stolen on the same day, lol). Some days I don’t know if I’ll make it but the kind words here have bought me some more time for sure. If you’re reading this, stay strong. You aren’t alone.

Hi everyone, today is day 13 or 14 of not smoking. I have been smoking weed daily since 8th grade, the longest I didn’t smoke was 4 months and then went back. I don’t want to smoke anymore because I’m 31 and feel it makes me older than how I should be feeling. My stomach is so uncomfortable at times, it’s like a stress ball in my stomach I don’t know how to begin to get rid of. But I do come with some advice. Look up adaptogens. 4 particular ones are SIBERIAN GINSENG!! Rhodiola, shilajit and ashwaghanda, I can’t say one is better than the other because all 4 together at the right time harmonize me but for sure Siberian ginseng is the one that elimates the anxiety that comes with not smoking and makes me feel life again, it’s a amazing herb and really a secret but I like this little chat so consider yourself lucky and if I was you I’d look into it.

58-year-old male and 25 Year+ daily smoker. On February 5, 2023, I quit cigarettes and on April 5, 2023, I quit smoking/ingesting weed and drinking alcohol. Prior to quitting, and I guess on and off for years, I’ve had thoughts that something just wasn’t right. I guess maybe you could say it was feeling something was off. I primarily chalked it up to bad stress from stuff at work, lack of exercise, depression/anxiety, or just a thought I’ll come out of it tomorrow. Most days I’d live life fine. Content enough but every now and again the thought would pop back into my head: something’s just not right. I quit smoking because of my brother’s heart attack and started eating better and working out 6-days a week (3 cardio; 3 lifting). Although quitting any addiction isn’t fun, I still had a nagging feeling something wasn’t right. I then watched Dr. Anna Lemke on Dr. Andrew Huberman’s podcast talk about dopamine and changes to a person’s chemistry due to substances. I then researched extensively about addiction and how substances change a person. I conceded the need to know: Is the reason I get a feeling something is off due to depression or pot and binging alcohol? I’m approaching 5-months clean from pot and alcohol and here’s my quick summary: 1) Weed was being my feeling something wasn’t right. My mental health has leveled out. I’m no longer as quick to anger; I’m not obsessing as much. 2) I still wake up a lot at 2 am and it takes me a while to get back to sleep. 3) I am still constipating from quitting one of the substances. I went consistently once a day in the mornings and now maybe once every 3 or 4 days. I’ll just say stuff’s just not right. All in all, however, I’m feeling ok: still eating healthier, working out 6 days a week. Gained a bunch 20lbs but some might be fecal back-up and water. I, like some of you, had wild dreams for a couple weeks after laying down my one-hitter, but that went away pretty quickly. Was jittery, etc for few weeks but now it’s just the insomnia and constipation. If anyone tells you weed isn’t addicting, they’re a fool. Coming down from long-term weed use sucks!!!

A friend shared this site with me and I’m so glad they did! I started smoking when it became legal in Canada. So it’s been about 4 years for me. Started very casually and then in the past 2 years has become quite consistent (pandemic made me frequent), and then very frequent in the past year. I decided to go cold turkey. I was very depressed and my tolerance was very high. I would smoke but only feel the effects for like 5-10 minutes and then nothing, so I would smoke more and more every day.

Day 2 is when the sweats (hot and cold), diarrhea, stomach rumbling and some nausea. Loss of appetite was been happening as well. I’m currently on Day 4. I don’t have the stomach pains (thankfully) just a bad gut, but I’ve always had one so I’m not surprised this is how I’m reacting.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences! It had made me feel not alone.

You bring up a good point I haven’t heard too many say, which is for some of heavy smokers we just didn’t get high anymore. We just were smoking to chase feeling okay or normal. Weed changes our baseline and sets a new one. We smoke just to get to that baseline. For me for the last few years it started to bother me I was wasting my time. And wasting money.

I have so many of the symptoms listed here.

My main one has been stomach issues, I am very healthy and eat clean and exercise nearly everyday. It’s so frustrating that I have been so sick.

I have always had IBS, but recently I had bad buses in the morning and dry heaving. Doctors checked me out and said I had gastritis. Every time I have stopped weed it flares up very bad at around the 2-4 week mark. I’ve never had issues like this in my life!

I am positive cannabis has played a major role in this and may even be the cause. I am a month clean now and never want to feel like this again. You take things for granted until your health is bad. I’m saving a ton of money and bettering myself in every way now.

  • Carolynn says:

don’t know if it might help, this came to me as I was like sick for the 6th week running followed by some serious release of all the tobacco smoking over the years (smoked cigarettes since I was 12) if you pretend like as if you have a cigarette between your fingers and quickly suck in as if you’re having a drag, the muscles including intenstinals clench inwards a bit, I felt like massive knots were being released at the time not seeing it was all those puffs I have taken over the years (almost 40 now) Since it has come back to me am going to try out some qi gong as some of the moves can literally help massage internal organs from the inside out. Not saying it will work miracles only that’s how I feel right now, If someone could take them out and just give them a bit of a twist like a kitchen towel I’d probably feel some sort of relief. Although for the moment working on some kind of sleep routine as feel so tired. Tomorrow is a new day.

Hi, I’m 19 so i am a younger than most of you but i have quit weed twice and got all the symptoms like cold sweats, loss of appetite, and stomach pains. The first time i started smoking i just did it at night but it quickly changed to smoking right after work and all throughout the night. This was my first experience with weed, I was using weed carts. I used everyday for about 3-4 months then quit. The day after I quit I had terrible pains in my stomach and I didn’t eat anything. But I didn’t know it was from weed so I kept on using until I realized. In that time frame I went to the ER 3 times and got an endoscopy, and they found nothing. Then I realized it was from weed, so I quit cold turkey and it was terrible i couldn’t go to school for a month I was just in bed all day suffering. Then the symptoms started going away after time and I started working on my career and I was the happiest I had ever been. Fast forward a few months I got fired from my job and I loved this job, I thought I would spent the rest of my life there, and I was good at what I did. So I had to go to college because of this. Now it’s November 6th 2023 I have been using everyday for around 2 months. The first day I quit I threw up.I am on day 2 of quitting it’s not as bad as the first time but it’s still bad. I have only eaten fruit and drank water to stay hydrated.I think it’s not as severe this time because between the first time I quit to now I started going to the gym and I was really healthy. The first time I quit I was very weak and unhealthy. I just wanted to vent about what I have been through. If I can get through it you guys can too!!

I have been smoking weed every single day (1-3 joints a day) since I was 16, I’m 23 years old now.
Every night I smoked a joint before sleeping, and sometimes during the day and evening. Never slept without a joint (before bed) in 6+ years. Always smoked the strongest available mostly 25+ thc and sometimes over 30 thc.

    I quit and I’m on day 6, so far ;

    • I have lost focus, concentration, attention
    • I have increased appetite, eating more than usual
    • Excessive bloating
    • Lethargic, walk a little and start breathing heavily (I went to gym everyday and did cardio and weightlifting 6 days a week prior to quitting)
    • Unable to go to gym as I have lost sense of coordination and continually lose grip and dropping keys phone and things from my hand
    • Extremely weird/scary dreaming
    • Insomnia (not as bad as some other people in the comments), manage to sleep, just feels weird and very unusual to sleep without weed
    • High depression and anxiety (feeling like what’s the point of living as weed was my only escape, I don’t drink)
    • Irritability
    • Very serious, don’t smile, no friendly, hate people, don’t wanna talk to anybody, if someone asks questions at work, feel like rudely replying them but I control my emotion and still do a fake smile
    • Worst for me is depression, bloating and hating life at the moment
    • Don’t wanna smoke ever again but scared and frightened of going back to weed
    • Much more but brain not functioning properly

    Hope it gets better.

I quit smoking after 22 years I was doing good I thought. after about 1 month I went to the doctor and was backed up he proscribed colonoscopy drink to clean me out. another month went by feeling good then ended up in er with sever upper abdomen pain ct scan and blood work was normal. ever since I wake up every morning with severe abdominal pain and mild pain throughout the day. got mri and colonoscopy and scope in the next couple months. I thought these symptoms would happen sooner if at all. I found myself taking hot showers and sleeping in recliner with heating pad. had a gallbladder scan and it came back normal I really didn’t think stopping could cause stomach issues this far out anyone else had this problem?

It sounds like you’re in the beginning stages of CHS (cannabis hypermesis syndrome). It’s called the prodrominal phase or something like that. PLEASE STOP SMOKING IMMEDIATELY BEFORE YOU START UNCONTROLLABLY VOMMITING AND WANT TO DIE. PLEASE STOP SMOKING. DO IT FOR YOU.

17 year-long heavy user. Now on my 21st day clean. Everything is almost over, except the (huge) stomach issues. Constantly bloated, feeling acid reflux and nausea almost all-day long. Suffered several episodes from diarrhea and vomiting (3 full days without eating, 2 times). It’s sad that I can’t find any information online about the topic (what’s the exact reason behind this). Also sad when most articles don’t include stomach issues among the withdrawal symptoms, or they say they usually peak within the first week and stop shortly afterwards. Reading some comments here give me hopes that these madness will eventually heal (aiming for 3-6 months more of suffering). Good luck to everyone going through all this shit… it’s being definitely eye-opener (in terms of… what kind of shit have I smoked all these years?).

31 years old, have smoked every day heavily for 10+ years. It’s been seven days since I’ve smoked weed. My second day I felt very fatigue. I have some loss of appetite, but not very much. in fact, today I scarfed down a good size breakfast, which is unusual for me. I had cold sweats while sleeping, but they have stopped for now. I have been experiencing diarrhea, which is a little worrying to me. Other than that I feel good.

I’m right there with you Sam, 31 years old and have been a heavy user for 10+ years as well. I have tried to quit a couple times before but could only make it to day 7-10 before I would cave and start smoking again.

All you comments really make me feel better about what I am going through. I have been a very heavy smoker for 30 years now and was in the cannabis industry so it’s been free so no limits. I spent the last year or 2 smoking heavy THC concentrates 70 or 89 percent thc. I quit cold turkey and am experiencing headache, stomach problems and sleeping problems along with incredibly vivid dreams. I have been sober for 67 days now and still testing positive for THC 154 NG to be exact so I am guessing my THC levels were out of site. I am still getting headaches and stomach pain along with bad gas. I hope this info helps just hang in there hopefully it will get better for you and me. I am very surprised how long my symptoms have lasted they are getting a bit better they seem to come a go a little more often now but i still have bouts of bad headaches and recurring stomach pains and my sleep really hasn’t improved a long with a feeling of brain fog. Good Luck!

Stopped weed january 2nd after 12 years of daily usage. Had terrible stomach pain after the first week and increased at a very high point the 3rd week with heartburn so painful that I needed to take a shower every hours. Been on pantoprazole 40mg (ipp) since then, I’m doing better I can feel it. Not the best but god its a relief (a bit) … Also having a lump in my throat since 3 weeks. Went to an ENT telling me there was nothing, but anxiety and GERD are the reasons why I feel that. Also still having belly pain when eating. Reduced the size of my meal but never lose appetite. I must say that I’m frustrated cause I am hungry as hell but I know that if I eat at the level of my hunger, I’ll regret it. Also, noticed that when stone I was eating so fast without any issue. Now clearly, If I eat fast, that will just be pain after.
Now I fear when I’ll stop my ipps, but would have been taken them for 30 days only, so I shouldn’t have withdrawal problems. I don’t know if weed covered a certain condition or if it is just because my body was so used to have THC after eating that with cold turkey, I just fuc*ed up my stomach and brain connection. Anyway everyone, its a long way and difficult … I’m with you, be with me… Its not nothing, when you have been an heavy smoker, withdrawal is no joke … I will never ever again smoke weed the way I did. And I Intend to continue to purge myself .

I stopped smoking on march 11th because of hoarseness and the the doctors couldn’t find anything at all. Therefore, I tried stop smoking and everything got worse in the beginning. I actually got issues with my lungs, fever and stomach issues. Now the hoarseness is basically gone and also the fever and lungs issues are mostly gone. But now my stomach feels even worse. I have big issues with heartburn now and it’s really hard to keep on eating as usual. I never had any issue with my stomach or heartburn at all but now it feels like my stomach got really weak and almost everything triggers at least mild heartburns.
Because of the bad information in terms of ipps I refused to take it and trying to prevent it as much as possible by eating more often and smaller meals. Before that I did a lot of intermittent fasting and OMAD, but that’s not possible anymore as any bigger meal instantly trigger heartburn. I really hope that my digestion will normalize soon but I fear this will take quite some time. I mean it’s just the second week after 5-6 years of daily use.
After experiencing these withdrawal symptoms I made the confession to never touch this shit again in my life. I was always like: How bad can it be, there are almost nfellow effects like with alcohol but I just fucked up my whole body and having a hard time getting clean. At least these bad feeling and withdrawal symptoms keep me away from this stuff forever as I don’t want to experience this again in my life.
Reading about other people have similar stomach issues is a bit relaxing as I wasn’t really sure if this is connected at all or I have some other issues. But now after reading through all of these comments I am pretty convinced that is related to the withdrawal.
All the best to all my fellow people trying to get clean once and for all. Never ever give up, we can do that!
